CROSSEU at EMS2024: Showcasing Snow-Related Hazards Research
2024-09-16
CROSSEU proudly participated in the European Meteorological Society (EMS) Annual Meeting 2024 from 2–6 September in Barcelona. The Meteo Romania team, including Dana Micu, Sorin Cheval, and Raluca Smău, presented the poster "Rain-on-snow events in Romania: Climatology and trend analysis (1961-2021)," co-authored by Alexandru Dumitrescu, Vlad-Alexandru Amihaesei, and Narcisa Milian.
The poster focused on studying rain-on-snow (ROS) events, which occur when rain falls on an existing snowpack, potentially destabilising the snow. The research used data from 1961 to 2021, analysing trends in these events across different regions of Romania. This type of research is crucial to understanding the effects of changing weather patterns, particularly in relation to snow stability and extreme weather events.
The presentation sparked valuable discussions on climate change's impact on snow dynamics.
